Voki

Today we created an avatar in class. This was really interesting!
Get a Voki now!

We answered two questions about our educational philosophy. Click here to view my questions.

My webquest

We were to make our own webquest. I centered mine around first, second, or third grade. I did not make mine very complex so that the children will be able to understand what their task is. Click here to view my webquest!

Google Forms

Today in class we learned how to use a new tool called google forms (click google forms to view my survey). We were able to make the form about anything we wanted. I chose to just ask simple questions about college students. However, if I were using this for my classroom I could use it to have the children evaluate my teaching skills. There were different ways that you could form the questions such as letting the students type in their answer, having them choose their answer from a drop down box or even have them check a simple yes/no question. ( I forgot to put a scale question in my survey, but I do know how to do it!)
I think this is a GREAT tool to use with your classroom!

Jeopardy Games!

I can remember using Jeopardy as a review tool when I was a kid. Here is a link to the online template. This was pretty cool, but with this template you cannot add animation or videos. This game can also be made in powerpoint. In powerpoint you can make animations and use pictures. You can also make video questions by inserting a video or sound. I really thought it was so cool to be able to make a game in PowerPoint!!! You can do a lot more with powerpoint and make the game more interesting for the kids. This can be used over and over for many different ideas. I would use this in my classroom anytime I needed to do a review for my kids.

The NETS Standard that apply to this is:
2A: design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity.
I chose this standard because I am creating a learning experience that incorpates digital tools that promote students in learning. This is adapted from a boring worksheet or flash cards that work the same way. This is a more creative way of learning and it's a lot more fun.

The Things I Have Learned About PowerPoint

In the past few classes we learned somethings about animations in PowerPoint. For the most part I knew a lot about PowerPoint, but there were a few things that I learned such as motion path which can be done by clicking on the animation tab and then clicking on custom animation and from there move to the right side of the page and click add effect and choose motion path. I also thought it was really interesting to know how to label things on your PowerPoint. After we had finished putting our PowerPoint together we used Jing to capture it as a video. To view my PowerPoint click here!

The best activity so far!!

Power Point

I read all the information and looked at the examples. However, I am not quite sure if I did it right, but I gave it a shot. I did a lesson on hygiene in Power Point and then I uploaded it to slideshare.

On Line Class

Today we didn't have class, but we did have an assigment.
For todays assignment the entire class edited a google doc at the same time, it was really interesting, but I had trouble at first because my screen kept telling me that I needed to veiw the full site and I had NO idea had to do that, but I finally figured it out and was able to get my information typed in! It was a way to get information without copying and pasting everything. We then took the information that was entered into the document and maped it. The program we used was batchego. This program allowed us to copy and paste information into it then it did everything else. All of the addresses that the class entered were marked on a map, which I thought was pretty cool!

My map is located at http://www.batchgeo.com/map/5dea29be34a1b2cefcfc6934baf4d88e

Once I got the hang of it, it was really cool and I am very interested in using it now! I would use this in a classroom because this is something that I feel would amaze anyone and especially kids would find this to be something excitting and new.
The NETS that go along with this assignment are
1D: model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments.

I chose this one because we still learned new things, but not in a classroom environment.

Resume

I already had a Resume so this was a quick process for me. I had it saved to microsoft word documents. Therefore, I was able to go to google docs and just upload it. I really thought this was a interesting way to get my resume out there because it was just last week that the day care that I work for asked to have a copy of my updated resume, it would be eaiser then priniting it off everytime someone wants to see my resume.

Excel Grade Sheet Assigment

Today in class we worked with a list of pretend students grades. In the Excel Sheet we had to use the help menu in Excel to write our own IF function. We also had to find the min, the max, and the average of the grades. Once we did all that we added a background color and we added borders to the cells. I found this activity easy and I do believe it will benefit me in the future.

Excel Spreedsheet Experience

This activity helped me out a lot in learning new things about Excel, (click Excel to the left to view my spreed sheet) considering I really have never used Excel before. However, it was very frustrating to me at times because in the first activity we worked with I couldn't get my graphs to look right and when we used Microsoft word to go through our data that we did on Excel I found that very complicated because I wasn't sure what do and I wasn't very familiar with APA.

Photo Story

In class today we learned how to use photo story to take a power point show and turn it into a movie. We then uploaded it to YouTube so that the public will be able to see our creation. In this case we went to the Internet to find a powerpoint that had to deal with our field of interest but you could also create your own powerpoint and upload it as well.

Storage Choices

I used paint on the desktop to show the physical and virtual ways that you can store your work. In order to get my picture to my blog I used Jing. The two physical ways that I showed, were to use a jump drive and a floppy disk. Floppy disks are not used very much anymore, but still a great way to store information.Jump drives have taken over floppy disks because they are small and can store a large amount of information.

YouTube is a great place to post any videos that you may have, for example when we used the Jing tool to capture a video, we could upload it to YouTube for people to view. Blogger is also a great way for others to view your work because they just need the link and they can view all your information. The desktop is a easy way to store information, however it does limit on you on what you can show people. Last but not least is Jing. This is a newer tool to me, but so far it has been a lot of help in capturing images and capturing videos.

The teaching standard I would use is number 2. Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments
A.
design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity.

Video Capture on Jing

I used the Jing video capture to show people hoe to go into a word document and highlight a sentence.

Picasso Head

Picasso Head was a very interesting and creative program where you can go and be as creative as you want to be by making your own Picasso mater piece!

Jing Experience

Today we worked with the Jing tool which allows you to capture an image and save it to your desktop. I think that this would have been a great tool to have, however I was unable to save my image and when I tried to do the update in order to save my image it would not run the update, therefore I was not able to save my captured image to the desktop. :(

Snipping Tool

My captured image

The standard that fits the snipping tool assignment is standard 1. B

1. Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity

b. engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources.

It fits the assignment because we are solving problems of being able to capture images though a simple tool that can be found on your computer.

Post 2- Personality

I was pretty far off on what I thought my personality was. The test said that I was a guardian and I felt that I was more artisan and guardian was third on my order list.

I feel that my result from the test would be better in being a leader for teachers because guardian says that they are stabilizing leaders which is what adults are looking for is someone who is stable and can give them answers, where as if the personality test would have been right with my guess (artisan) then I feel that I would be a better leader for students because they are more of a troubleshooting leader, which is what kids are looking for because they are always trying to solve problems.

Either way I feel that both artisan and guardian are have great qualities, however I still feel that I am more artisan despite what the test shows.

Post 1- Personality

  • My experience with personality tests in the past has been very good. If you're are honest with the questions the test usually matches the person very well.

  •  I think my personality would be idealist, artisan, guardian, and rational based upon the descriptions.

  • I chose idealist as the personality that fits me best because if I had to look at myself and judge myself based upon a list of facts then idealist fits me best because I feel like I am a strong leader, yet I care alot about people and love helping others. Even though I am all about independence I am a hopeless romantic at heart. I felt that idealist description best fits those qualities that I see in myself.

All about Ashley

My name is Ashley Phillips. I am a junior at Fairmont State and I am majoring in Elementary Education. I would love to teach second garde. I have a job at a day care center here in Fairmont, and I grew up in Tucker County WV. I think I am a very creative person, but I am a horrible test taker. Once I have my degree I would love to getting a teaching job in NY or NC.  I may be from a small town, but my heart is in the city!
